I’ve been thinking about magazines a lot this week, probably because of my previous Iconic Magazines mention. I’m not sure that “reading magazines” counts as a hobby but if it does (fingers crossed!!), it’s certainly my longest held one. Let’s just say if there was a magazine named Magazine Aficionado, I would be on the cover. Print media is alive and well in my dreams.
One of my favorite classic magazine features is the “help me find this thing!” reader question. Do you know what I mean? Maybe it’s a restaurant’s recipe or a sweater they saw on an episode of Felicity but this dear reader has run out of options and is now begging some Condé Nast Editorial Assistant to get to work.
Do you know where this is going? I’m going to talk about a thing that I want to find. You saw right through me.
A few years ago, I watched an episode of Stanley Tucci’s Italian travel show with my parents (extreme “likely place for him to be” vibes). In this episode, he enjoys a beautiful lunch with the Missoni matriarch and her family at their estate outside Milan. It’s all so la-di-da I almost can’t stand it. While watching, I zeroed in on their wine glasses. Ohmygod I love them so much. I’ve been thinking about them for years now! Where in the world can I find these glasses???
And believe me, I’ve been hunting! Oh boy, I love a hunt! It took me a long time to find a beret that made me feel like Cher from Clueless and not Curtis Sliwa (not gonna curse you with a link for that one). Now that was satisfying! All to say, generally speaking, I’m up for the challenge. But the trail has gone cold and now I’m stuck with these mystery wine glasses lodged in my brain and nothing to show for it. Will I ever know peace?
I reopened the search this week to see if Etsy had any hidden treasures. Here’s what I found.
These are so cute! Great color and they look like a pleasure to hold. A smidge too kitschy though. Good effort!
I saw this style a lot when I visited Germany last year. I think green stems are more common but I really like this amber color. According to the seller “They make a excellent clinking/chime when "cheers" happens.” I believe it!
This set would be perfect for serving iced tea to Nosferatu, don’t you think? The shape is closer to what I’m looking for, although not quite, but the color is just so sinister. No thanks!
By far the closest I’ve seen yet! Not exactly a sibling but maybe a cousin?? The shape is more “chalice” than I’d like. Good but I’m waiting for great.
So the search continues. If you have any ideas, I’m listening. No matter what, I hope your weekend is filled with excellent clinking/chime when “cheers” happens!
